3Root Candles is well known as an upscale candlemaker. While they began their bee keeping business in 1869, they didn’t begin making candles until 1928.  They are very similar to a Yankee candle, but we feel that Root Candles are of higher quality, as they look and smell better and are a bit more unique and sophisticated.  The texture is very smooth, and the color stays bright and even the entire time you burn the candle.  A Root Candle smells just as strong from start to finish as well, and ounce for ounce they burn longer than Yankee Candles. Here are a few of my favorite fragrances:

  • Chocolateness – If I could have only one, this would be it. It fills the whole house with a rich aroma and sweet mixture of brown sugar, butter and the rich sinful taste of dark dutch cocoa and is dark brown in color. (my favorite color and matches almost every room in my house)
  • Victorian Fantasy – This one is great for the kitchen, and good any time of the year with it’s robust blend of citrus and spice, with orange, peach, nutmeg, anise and bay leaf.
  • Sampaquita – It’s one of my mom’s favorites, it scent has a distinctive blend of jasmine from the Phillipines with honeysuckle and rose- Very relaxing, great in the bedroom.
  • French Vanilla – This is a great staple as it is ivory in color so matches every decor, and of course has a great classic, comforting scent of sweet vanilla beans on a bakery background. and on a personal note it’s my husband’s favorite.
  • Hosta  - This one is great for the bathrooms. Hosta smells of crisp leafy greens, green apple highlights with notes of rose, jasmine, lily of the valley, hyacinth and plumeria flower and is dark olive in color.
  • Great Spring Fragrances – Lilac, Flowering Herbs, Hosta
  • Best for Summer – Mango, Dreamsicle, Hosta
  • Favorites at Fall – Pumpkin Spice (Stronger), Mulled Cider (softer), Patchouli (musk scent)
  • Warms me during Winter – I burn Cinnamon Apple, and I like to give Candy Cane as a gift during the holidays

The Rundown -What we like about Root Candles:  The long burning time. The scent is released evenly as the candle burns down. They have a huge selection of scents to choose from.
The candles are really beautiful; the wax color is vibrant and does not fade, and the texture is very smooth.

They seem a bit on the pricey side, but are definitely worth the extra few dollars, once you see how well they burn and smell.
